Reading List (not really)

Okay, so I decided to begin my journey with gaining some background knowledge. How will I do that? Reading, of course!

I have recently been surfing the web trying to find some books to read to gain some knowledge of the industry. I don't mean what the industry was like 50 years ago, or any "through the decades" books because, quite frankly, that's all I'm learning in class so far. I want to know what's been going on recently.

Through my research, I have put together this list of 5 books I want to read:

(1) The Vogue Factor - Kirstie Clements
(2) If You Have to Cry, Go Outside - Kelly Crutone
(3) Style A to Zoe - Rachel Zoe
(4) The Little Black Book of Style - Nina Garcia
(5) The One Hundred - Nina Garcia

Just a reminder, these are the books that I want to read based on my interests and opinion. A couple others that I want to read, but can't seem to find in the Apple Store are:

(1) Influence - Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen
(2) Fashion A to Z - Alex Newman & Zakee Shariff
(3) That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels, and Everything in Between - Victoria Beckham

Once I am done with the first five, I'll probably look for them on Amazon or something.

I will be reading The Vogue Factor first, and I have actually read the first 40 or so pages and I can tell it is going to be great. A little background info: Kirstie Clements was actually editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia. She began as a receptionist and made her way up the latter. In the book she talks about the different jobs she had and her experiences with those jobs. This book is obviously one of those "behind the scenes" books that every fashion student loves because it is like peeking through a window.

Once I am done reading the book, I will post up a review of it. If any of you wants to read it, its only about $10 in the Apple Store so feel free to follow along with me. For those of you that have read it, if you want to give me your opinion on it, or some different perspectives, that'd be great!

Love always,

Sara

Welcome to my Blog!

Hey everyone,

My name is Sara and I am a fashion student at the Fashion Institute of Technology. As sad as it is to say, I have learned a very valuable lesson since I started my first semester at FIT: I know absolutely nothing about fashion. And when I say nothing, I mean NOTHING.

I am not a design major, or anything artsy like that. I am an Advertising and Marketing Communications major. The reason why I am studying marketing for the fashion industry is because I believe that you should always enjoy what you do. Being that I have a (huge) lack of talent for designing and illustrating, I have decided to stick to what I am good at (which is business, I hope), and somehow incorporate that with fashion. End result? I am studying fashion marketing.

There are 2 reasons why I decided to join the blogging bandwagon:

(1) Everyone is doing it! I know that it sounds like I am just doing it to "fit in", but I seriously always wanted to start my own, I just didn't know what I would write about. Plus, you always want to jump into doing something when its big, not when you're one of the few.

(2) I didn't want to feel like the only "wanna-be fashionista". I figured if I started this blog, it might inspire others to teach me and hopefully I get to teach others. We have got to stick together, people!

So hopefully you'll enjoy watching me stumble towards my path to Fabulous. I will try to keep updating this every week, but please don't hold me to that. Also, in the case that I post something completely unrelated to fashion, just go with it. I tend to have ADD sometimes.

Love always,

Sara

P.s. Give me feedback, I love feedback!
